Another Geek Finding His Place on the Web

About

I'm a geek, and apparently full of myself, 'cause I actually think that you might be interested in what I have to say. Feel free to point and giggle.

I thought I had been one of the lucky ones. I thought I wouldn’t be afflicted. I thought I had been careful. As it turns out, I had just been naive. At first it was just an irritation, then three bright red marks. Now it seems that death is all but certain. I hear there is hope. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

This affliction of which I speak is the dreaded Xbox 360 “Ring of Death“. A problem so serious that Microsoft extended the Xbox 360 warentee to 3 years, but only if you get the ring of death. And so serious that the box needs to be sent to Microsoft for repair. Good bye, old friend.

Xbox 360 Ring of Death

What makes this particularly sad is that yesterday was my birthday (happy birthday to me!) and I had gotten the go-ahead to play Rock Band as much as I wanted. 2 songs is all I got. Boo hoo. Poor me.

On a happier note, this will make Christmas considerably cheaper. Both of my kids…and, yes, me…all had Xbox 360 games on our Christmas lists. No need to bother with those if it’s going to be 6 to 8 weeks before we are able to play again!!!

Now you’ll excuse me while I go back to feeling sorry for myself.

  1. I am very sorry to hear of your loss. If you want to try the towel trick as a temporary way to play until your coffin arrives, watch this:

  2. That’s pretty amazing, and pretty scary at the same time. And who thought of that? “Hey! I’m having a critical system failure! Why don’t I try making that sucker overheat and see what happens….holy crap! It fixed it!”

Of course, with my luck one of 2 things would happen. Either Microsoft would see this as “tampering” and the warentee would be voided, or my towels would catch fire…and then I’m pretty sure my warentee would be voided.

  3. Yet another reason why you should have a Wii.
